THE ALGO is about a woman who believed in the system she helped build, and what happens when she finds the thing the system could not account for.

Set in Denver in 2045, the novel follows Jordan Reese, a Senior Innovation Facilitator for the Joint Nexus Administration, a governing body that has replaced traditional government with a comprehensive optimization framework. Citizens are scored in real time. Resources are allocated by algorithm. Art has been systematically dismantled as a resource drain. Jordan scores Falcon tier. She built her life around earning that.

Then something cracks in the data, and the system starts paying attention to her in a new way.

Readers who found Black Mirror more thought-provoking than horror-inducing. People who have wondered what the systems around them are actually optimizing for. Readers of dystopian fiction who want something grounded in recognizable logic rather than authoritarian spectacle. Anyone who has read 1984, Brave New World, or Never Let Me Go and wanted the same question asked again, in a world that looks a little more like the one outside the window.

Both.

The world is speculative and fully built out, with its own economy, surveillance infrastructure, social structure, and history. The story is driven by character. The questions at the center are literary: what do we lose when we optimize the human out of human systems, and what does it cost to rebuild yourself once you realize what you gave up?

Readers who come from Never Let Me Go, The Circle, or Klara and the Sun tend to land on it as literary fiction. Readers who come from Player Piano or The Every call it science fiction. THE ALGO lives comfortably in both places.

The main ones: optimization culture and its limits, algorithmic governance, the suppression of creativity and art, surveillance, the relationship between identity and institutional belonging, and what it means to choose when choice has been designed out of your daily life.

There is also a thread running through the whole book that is quietly philosophical: the question of causation, prediction, and whether human beings can ever really be fully known by a system, even a very good one.

In terms of lineage, it belongs to the same tradition. The mechanism of control is different.

In Orwell's world, the state rules through fear and surveillance. In Huxley's, through pleasure and distraction. In THE ALGO, the mechanism is optimization itself: the reduction of every human behavior to a measurable variable with a right answer. Nobody forces Jordan to comply. The system just makes compliance look like the rational choice, over and over. Until the moment it cannot.

THE ALGO is published as adult literary fiction. The themes, algorithmic control, identity, grief, and resistance, are mature but the novel contains no graphic violence or explicit content. Many readers in their mid-teens and older have found it accessible, particularly those drawn to literary dystopian fiction. The novel is ultimately a story about a woman discovering what it cost her to belong to a system and what it might cost to stop. Whether it is right for a younger reader is a judgment for the reader or their guardian to make.

THE ALGO is the first book in a trilogy. The trilogy consists of three novels: THE ALGO (Book 1, published June 2026), TEN PEAKS (Book 2, Spring 2027), and THE SECRET CANVAS (Book 3).

THE ALGO tells a complete story. It ends at a satisfying place. The questions it raises carry through the trilogy, but readers do not need to commit to all three books before beginning the first.

The trilogy reads in order: THE ALGO (Book 1), TEN PEAKS (Book 2), THE SECRET CANVAS (Book 3). Reading in sequence is recommended. The books share characters, a continuing narrative, and a thematic arc that builds across all three volumes.

TEN PEAKS, Book 2 of THE ALGO Series, is scheduled for Spring 2027. THE SECRET CANVAS, Book 3, does not yet have a confirmed release date.

The Joint Nexus Administration, or JNA, is the governing body in THE ALGO. It emerged from the climate crises of the early 2030s and gradually absorbed the functions of traditional government under the banner of emergency efficiency. By 2045, the JNA controls Denver's urban core through a comprehensive efficiency scoring system. Citizens are rated on productivity, resource consumption, social compliance, and health optimization. The rating determines nearly everything about their daily life.

The JNA is not a villain in the conventional sense. It genuinely believes it is building a better world. That is what makes it frightening.

There is a real website at jointnexus.com (opens in a new tab) modeled after the organization in the novel. Like the JNA in the book, the site is fiction. The experience of visiting it is real.

The Mosaic is the resistance network operating in the world of THE ALGO. Its members work in the surveillance blind spots the JNA maintains strategically, preserving what the system has classified as waste: books, recordings, music, paintings. The Mosaic uses art as a tool of cognitive liberation, on the premise that exposure to unoptimized human expression can break the system's hold on how people understand their own choices.

Members take codenames drawn from artistic terms. Jordan Reese's codename is [REDACTED].

Yes. jointnexus.com (opens in a new tab) is a real, working website built as part of the transmedia experience surrounding THE ALGO Series. It is designed as if it were the actual public-facing portal of the Joint Nexus Administration from the novel. Visitors can take the efficiency assessment, receive a classification into one of the six efficiency classes, and explore the JNA's world from inside the fiction.
